G'day,
Sorry for the long delay of response. That said, I always figure God has His timing with things. He has kept us so busy with ministry work of late that website maintainence has taken a backseat. How wonderful to feel the Lord moving you and your family towards overseas work which is very challenging no matter where in the world He sends you. When we first heard of Australia from another missionary, we were painted a very different picture to what we found upon arrival. We expected a very dark, spiritual wasteland with no churches and no interest. One step into the local Christian bookstore in Melbourne had us scratching our heads, for it was far better equipped (and crowded with people & books and less with home decor, music & t-shirts) than the ones we knew in the States! Someone HAD to be keeping these bookstores in business--we learned there is a thriving Christian community here. So, why DID the Lord bring us if it wasn't to rescue these "lost, heathen Aussies"? We're still working that out, but faithfully serving in whatever He gives us to do wherever He plants us, which, for the time being, is here. We are 10-year veterans at this stage, and have ministered in churches in FL and PA as well for 18 years all up. I believe every place on the planet is a mission field--for the Gospel is needed every day everywhere. I would say Australia's greatest need in the area of outreach is definitely in the major cities and surrounding suburbs (Melbourne 4 mil., Sydney 6 mil.) for immigrant outreach. There are 172 different nationalities in Melbourne alone--most speaking English as a second language or not at all. They are ripe for reaching--for people who are dedicated workers who know how to teach English as a second language (TESOL) and are committed to the task of befriending and helping these acclimate into the local Australian culture. Many Aussie churches see this need and are doing what they can to minister, but immigration is newer and huge, seen as a threat, and people lean towards racism (kinda like in America...). Hope this helps. God bless, Deanna

Hello,

My name is Michael Vaughn, my family and I are feeling the tug of the Lord for missionary work in Australia. We currently are residing in California. While we are not new to the faith, having planted churches, etc, this new to us. Any prayers or advice you have is appreciated. In Him, Michael
